Welcome!

Uhyst on the Spree, between beautiful landscapes, pond areas, and the largest lake in Saxony, the "Bärwalder See", is an attractive place for tourists, right on the Spree cycle hiking trail. The central location between Bautzen, Hoyerswerda, Niesky and Weißwasser also offers good opportunities to reach us by public transport. The Uhyster local history association, founded in 1998, has made it its mission to make an active contribution to the preservation of nature, to the processing and continuation of historical topics, to the promotion of children and youth work and cultural work. There are corresponding working groups for all sub-areas. We currently have 65 members. On our website we invite you to get to know the local association better.

Park seminar Schlosspark Uhyst

Last year, the Uhyster Heimatverein held its first park seminar in Uhyst in collaboration with the landscape architecture firm Franz from Leipzig. The aim of the event was to protect the old trees and partially restore the original condition of the park. Before the work assignment there was a seminar with the architectural office. Here it was explained to us how the wild growth that is widespread in the park affects the old trees. Maples and other trees damage the widespread crowns of English oaks and plane trees. This convinced the skeptics who were also in the ranks of the local history association. The impressive view of the plane tree after clearing the undergrowth dispelled any remaining doubts. We would like to thank all of the hard-working helpers once again. A continuation is planned for this year. The funding has already been approved.
